Mr Chris Nourse


Five times school Principal, Mr Chris Nourse has 16 years’ experience of school leadership both in the UAE and in the UK. He is a trained school inspector and holds the National Professional Qualification for Headship. He specialises in Science and Environmental studies, as well as leadership training.

Dr William Pedley

Head of Secondary

Dr William Pedley started his career teaching French and History in a range of Independent and State secondary schools in the UK.  He has also worked designing, delivering and awarding qualifications both academic (for Edexcel/Pearson) and vocational (for the Institute of Sales and Marketing Management).  Since then he has worked as the Principal of colleges in London, Al Ain and Nigeria, before joining us at Al Ain Academy in 2018.  Dr Pedley has a keen interest in sport, particularly cricket and rugby, and has coached and played in teams in both.

Mrs Farrah Ann De Bruyn

Head of Primary

Mrs De Bruyn received her Bachelor of Primary Education Degree in 1999 and has almost 20 years of teaching experience. She has been fortunate enough to work in many countries, with the bulk of her teaching being undertaken in the UK. She taught for over twelve years in a London school, before moving to the UAE six years ago. She has held many leadership positions in her career, including a secondment to the Local Education Authority in Redbridge, London, as an English consultant. Her passion is for English and for teaching early reading and writing by using inspiring authors and developing critical thinking skills.

Mr Ian Pugh

Assistant Head of Primary

Ian has been in teaching for 15 years, working at various schools in both the UK and the UAE.  He moved from a UK graded ‘outstanding’ school in 2009 to Al Muna Academy in Abu Dhabi, assisting with the opening of a brand new school in the Aldar Academies family.  In 2012 Mr Pugh returned to the UK to be closer to his family, forming part of the management team in a local school to improve the school from ‘special measures’ to becoming graded as a ‘good’ school.  He remained at this school for the next 7 years, being promoted to Assistant Head Teacher of the school in 2014, leading the year 6 SATS team, behaviour, mathematics and school PR.   Returning to the UAE in April 2019, Mr Pugh is keen to study for his qualification in the National Qualification for Head Teachers. He has a passion for Mastery Mathematics, sports and aims to support the school with the understanding of the UK National Curriculum and its implementation at Al Ain Academy to ensure all pupils make the progress they deserve whilst ensuring they have passion and enjoyment for their studies, becoming intelligent, respected global citizens.


Mrs Danielle Rooth

Assistant Head of Secondary

Danielle Rooth has been teaching for 18 years and has held many leadership positions during her career.  She started her career in Tottenham, London in 2001, working as a Teacher of PE and Head of Year in a fresh start Academy. Before teaching at Al Ain Academy, Danielle was an Associate Assistant Lead at an outstanding Sports Academy in her home county of Cornwall, UK. She was a designated child protection office, Duke of Edinburgh mentor and Head of Year. As a link professional for teacher training, Danielle has mentored and trained many teachers over the years and continues to support this at Al Ain Academy. During her time here Danielle has led Key Stages 4 and 5, worked as Head of Girls PE and has now taken a more senior role as Assistant Head Teacher, and is continuing to study for her National Qualification for Head Teachers. She is a highly skilled and personable leader who has had an immediate positive impact of the Secondary School. High expectations of all is her key message at all times, she ensures the students believe in themselves and creates an environment that is challenging and nurturing.
